City of Abbotsford 2025 Artist in Residence: Call for Artists
Applications are now open for the City of Abbotsford’s 2025 Artist in Residence: Sharing the Stories of Abbotsford. Heritage Abbotsford is partnering with the City of Abbotsford to collaborate with a local artist through a self-directed residency aimed at strengthening community appreciation of local heritage through art.
The goal of the partnership is provide free, fun, and accessible activities for the community to discover, experience, and participate in art, culture, and heritage that contribute to the residency theme of “Sharing the Stories of Abbotsford”. A diverse range of art practices are eligible for the program, including (but not limited to) drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, fashion, craft, installation, performance, sound, music, new media, dance, theatre, and literary arts. Deadline for applications is February 15, 2025.

Artist Eligibility:
- Must be 18 years or older (no age limit for applicants)
- Must be able to provide twelve (12) public engagement sessions over the course of the program (April – September 2025)
- Must have a relationship to Abbotsford (live past or present, study, work, or play)
- Must uphold the City of Abbotsford Strategic Plan values of respect, integrity, openness, collaboration, and inclusivity
- The successful applicant will be required to provide a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Screening. The results of the check must be acceptable to the City of Abbotsford at its sole discretion (assistance and reimbursement provided separate from artist fee)
- The successful applicant will be required to provide insurance listing City of Abbotsford and Abbotsford School District #34 as additional insured (assistance and reimbursement provided separate from artist fee)
