  • Description

To mark the centennial of Trethewey House, Heritage Abbotsford Society is proud to present this unique addition to local history. Written in partnership with Abbotsford author Julia K. Rohan, it features the women of the pioneering Trethewey family - women who have had a significant impact on the Fraser Valley and beyond. In some cases, their ideas, actions, and ideals have altered the history of Canada.

"Often as intelligent and enterprising as their adventuring spouses (or perhaps even more so), these pioneering women came to Canada and created 'nests' in which the future could develop and flourish. Many had several children they raised virtually on their own. Unsung heroines, the Trethewey women lived, worked, suffered, celebrated, and died with very little fanfare. They ran the gamut of personality types, from indomitable businesswoman, to teetotaler, to wild partier, to incurable romantic, and even fatally depressed. Yet non achieves more than a passing mention in local history."

Foreword, Pioneers in Petticoats: The Trethewey Women 1800-1900.
