Call for Candidates: HERITAGE ABBOTSFORD SOCIETY Board of Directors and Committee/Members at Large
HERITAGE ABBOTSFORD SOCIETY THE MEMORY OF THE COMMUNITY
Heritage Abbotsford is a charitable organization whose mission is to collect, record, preserve and share the stories of Abbotsford. Our Heritage Interpretive Program creates a lasting impression on several thousand individuals each year. As the Society’s programs enters its 54th year of delivery, the Board of Directors are hoping to recruit individuals to join the Board of Directors or join a Committee as a Member at Large.
“As a member of our Society, you would be able to vote at our AGM,” explains Amber Purewal, the Society’s Program Manager. “Once you have a membership, you can stand for election. Our Directors are a part of a vibrant and growing heritage organization. When you join our Board of Directors, you have an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in the community.”
HERITAGE ABBOTSFORD SOCIETY
The Heritage Abbotsford Society’s mission is to collect, record, preserve and share the stories of Abbotsford. Amongst other things, the Society operates Trethewey House Heritage Site through a fee for service with the City of Abbotsford.
“We develop and deliver curriculum-linked programs in schools, museums, and other spaces which are accessible to the public; host festivals and special events; connect with youth through internships, volunteerism, and summer employment; and promote volunteerism among seniors,” says Purewal. Through its program, the Society promotes cultural heritage and historical teachings, oftentimes in partnership with other community organizations, local service clubs, and educational organizations. “Your Membership in the Society supports the various program components, for example our collection, our current exhibit, The River People and the Land: Living within S’ólh Téméxw, and the work we do with historic buildings.”
You can sign up to become a member on the Society’s website at heritageabbotsford.ca/membership. Membership forms can also be picked up at the main office at 2313 Ware Street.
